MANCHESTER, England (CNS) -- Frances Shand Kydd, mother of the late Princess Diana of Wales, died at her home in Scotland June 3. Shand Kydd, 68, became a Catholic in 1994. Her parish priest, Father Donald McKay, was among those with her when she died. Bishop Ian Murray of Argyll and The Isles said he was "saddened to hear of the death of Frances Shand Kydd." The bishop said, "She was a deeply spiritual woman who had very successfully made her home here, integrating into the community very well." He said, "She once said that her father had taught her to treat everyone the same, whether they came from 'castle, cottage or caravan.' That was a lesson she lived out very well, and many people, from all walks of life, will be saddened by her passing." The bishop said Shand Kydd often read at Mass at St. Columba's Cathedral in Oban, Scotland. She also was an active volunteer at the cathedral, he said.
