WASHINGTON (CNS) -- There will be no media access at all to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' special assembly June 14-19, the USCCB Department of Communications said June 3. Among topics on the assembly's agenda are a progress report by the Task Force on Catholics in Public Life and a discussion of the bishops' "Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People" and the annual report on its implementation in each U.S. diocese. "Any further news or information that develops on these items during the special assembly will be posted on the USCCB Web site," the June 3 news release said. The site's address is www.usccb.org. The assembly, which is likely to draw more than 200 bishops, is to be held at the Inverness Hotel in Englewood, Colo., a suburb of Denver. Most of the meeting will be devoted to discussions of fundamental issues facing the U.S. church and the bishops' role in dealing with those issues, with an eye toward making a decision in November on whether to convene the first plenary council of the U.S. church since 1884.
