Girl organizes fund-raisers in honor of brother with heart problem

Published: 2004-06-03

LANCASTER, Pa. (CNS) -- Kennedy Kulish, a first-grader who attends St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lancaster with her family, wants to be a nurse, a teacher and a firefighter when she grows up. And it's not surprising that she wants to follow all three career paths at once, given her innate desire to help people in need. Last November, the ambitious 7-year-old organized "Kisses for Kaeden" in honor of the first birthday of her brother, who was born with a hole in his heart. Thanks to "Kisses for Kaeden," over the past six months Kennedy has raised money for the Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey and the American Heart Association. She also has collected stuffed animals for young victims of domestic abuse. On June 5, Kennedy planned to hold yet another fund-raiser: an auction, garage sale and bake sale to benefit the Children's Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization based in Salt Lake City that helps children by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America.
