Kenyan archbishop says Kenyans should not elect abortion supporters

Published: 2004-06-02

NAIROBI, Kenya (CNS) -- A Kenyan archbishop said church leaders will appeal to Catholics to vote against political candidates who support abortion. "In the next general election, we are going to appeal to our people not to vote in anybody who supports abortion," Archbishop Raphael Ndingi Mwana'a Nzeki of Nairobi said in a May 30 homily. He made his remarks after the recent roadside discovery of several garbage bags filled with fetuses. The Kenyan bishops' conference announced May 31 it would hold a Mass and burial June 3 for the 15 fetuses stuffed in garbage bags. The bags, along with medical records and discarded medical supplies, were found May 26 on the edge of a road next to the Nairobi River. Two days after the discovery, the bishops issued a statement condemning abortion.
