WASHINGTON (CNS) -- A funeral Mass was celebrated May 27 for Jesuit Father Paul L. Cioffi, a theologian, liturgist and retreat master, who died May 21 at age 75. The priest died of massive blood loss at the Washington Hospital Center while undergoing emergency surgery to repair a torn aorta. The Mass was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, a Jesuit-run parish near Georgetown University, with burial the following morning at the Jesuit Cemetery in Georgetown. A member of the theology faculty of Georgetown University for 30 years, Father Cioffi founded the Institute for Pastoral Renewal there in 1992 and directed it until his death.
