
Clarke, Callaway win individual excellence honors in CPA awards

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Kevin Clarke of U.S. Catholic magazine, produced by Claretian Publications in Chicago, and Karen Callaway of the Northwest Indiana Catholic, newspaper of the Diocese of Gary, Ind., won individual excellence honors in the combination awards category of the Catholic Press Association awards announced May 28 in Washington. Clarke's award was for writing and editing, and Callaway was honored in the photographer/artist category. "His understanding of social justice issues makes him an articulate observer and commentator as a writer," judges said of Clarke. "He exhibits an impressive breadth of skills that includes not only writing submissions but photography and Web site work as well." Callaway impressed judges with a "wonderful assortment of photos." They cited the "crisp, clean images" and "good composition."
