Ticket, please: British bishop talks his way into his ordination
Published: 2004-06-01
MANCHESTER, England (CNS) -- A newly appointed British Catholic bishop almost missed his own ordination after being caught outside a security cordon without a ticket. The Journal, a daily newspaper based in Newcastle, England, reported May 26 that Bishop Kevin Dunn of Hexham and Newcastle had to persuade security staff at St. Mary's Cathedral that he really was the new bishop. According to The Journal, security, organized by police, was extremely tight at the May 25 ceremony, and those at the door allowed only ticket-holders into the cathedral. "Fortunately, he was able to convince the guards he was guest of honor and took his place to become the 12th bishop of Hexham and Newcastle," the newspaper reported.
