What I Have Seen and Heard - Archbishop Gregory's Weekly Column

For Minnesota consultant, corporate spirituality not an oxymoron

Published: 2004-05-25

ST. CLOUD (CNS) -- Nine-to-fivers and professionals of all stripes descend their front steps daily toting travel mugs, lunch pails, briefcases and laptop computers. And Bibles, prayer shawls, rosaries and prayer rugs? Well, maybe, but probably not. The business world and the spiritual world are worlds apart, right? Wrong, according to Jim Neppl. Neppl, a member of St. Paul Parish in St. Cloud, is a proponent of "corporate spirituality" and is a "corporate spiritual consultant." According to a definition on Neppl's Web site, www.spiritsatwork.net, corporate spirituality is "a relationship with self, God and others. It is creativity and innovation. ... (It) contributes to the good of the company and greater society." As a corporate spiritual consultant, Neppl helps businesses and organizations develop healthy work environments by engaging employees and employers in spirituality at work. He develops and facilitates corporate retreats, workshops and experiences for work teams and individual workers.
