Msgr. Herron, Philadelphia Catholic Standard & Times columnist, dies

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CNS) -- A funeral Mass was celebrated May 5 at St. Laurence Church in Upper Darby for Msgr. Thomas J. Herron, parish pastor and a former columnist for The Catholic Standard & Times, newspaper of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Msgr. Herron died May 2 of cancer at the St. Laurence rectory. He was 56. For a number of years, Msgr. Herron wrote a weekly commentary on the coming Sunday's Scripture readings for The Catholic Standard & Times. His final column appeared last Oct. 23. Although many readers missed his column, Msgr. Herron did not want the newspaper to report on his illness. Cardinal Rigali was the principal celebrant for the funeral Mass. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon.
