Catholics, Orthodox meet in Moscow to devise code of conduct
Published: 2004-05-13
WARSAW, Poland (CNS) -- Catholic and Orthodox leaders in Russia met in early May to work on a code of conduct that would help avoid future conflict. The leaders who participated in the May 5-6 joint working group in Moscow said they pledged to cooperate on charity work. "Despite substantial difficulties, positive achievements have been observed recently in relations," said Father Igor Kovalevsky, secretary-general of the Russian bishops' conference. His remarks were reported by Poland's Catholic information agency, KAI. Father Kovalevsky said a code of conduct was needed because of a lack of "mutual understanding" between the two churches. He said negotiators agreed to cooperate on social projects and to expand interchurch communications in order to better understand one another.
