
Italians, Spaniard, Lebanese to be canonized May 16

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The six people Pope John Paul II will canonize during a May 16 Mass in St. Peter's Square are: Blessed Gianna Beretta Molla, an Italian who lived 1922-1962 and who refused medical treatment for herself to spare her unborn child; Blessed Nimatullah Kassab al-Hardini, a Maronite monk born in 1808 in Hardine, Lebanon, who died in 1858; Blessed Josep Manyanet Vives, a Spanish priest who lived 1833-1901 and founded the Sons of the Holy Family and the Missionary Daughters of the Holy Family of Nazareth; Blessed Luigi Orione, the Italian founder of the Sons of Divine Providence and the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity who lived 1872-1940; Blessed Annibale Di Francia, 1851-1927, the Italian priest-founder of the Daughters of Divine Zeal and the Rogationist Fathers; and Blessed Paola Elisabetta Cerioli, 1816-1865, the Italian wife and mother who founded the men's Congregation of the Holy Father and the Sisters of the Holy Family.
