Pope, at audience, encourages faithful to always trust in God

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- In the face of serious trouble and even death, believers are called to trust in God, "who remains ever faithful to his promises" to save those he created and loves, Pope John Paul II said. At his May 12 weekly general audience, the pope said Psalm 30 "demonstrates that we must never let ourselves be entrapped by the dark snare of desperation when it appears that all is lost." The human longing for God's help in overcoming trials and death is, in the end, an expression of a hope for eternal life, he said. "The satisfaction of this powerful aspiration was fully assured with the resurrection of Christ, for which we can never thank God enough," the pope told the crowd of 15,000 people at the general audience in St. Peter's Square.
