Vincentians use Web site to recruit new priests
Published: 2004-05-11
PHILADELPHIA (CNS) -- The Vincentians are using a modern tool -- the Internet -- to recruit new vocations. Since St. Vincent de Paul established the order in the 1600s, the Vincentians have been recruiting priests to help the poor and needy through conventional means, primarily by their own example in the schools, parishes and other ministries they sponsor. "Having a Web presence is a requirement these days," said Father John Maher, director of the Vincentian vocation ministry for his community's Eastern province, based in Philadelphia. "Those interested in joining the priesthood or brotherhood may do some research on the Web and are likely to find our site, which highlights the charism of St. Vincent, particularly his dedication to the poor and hungry, as well as the ministries and manpower of our province," he said in an announcement about the Web site. The interactive Web site, www.vincentians.net, offers a history of St. Vincent along with the answers to basic questions about the priesthood and the work of the Vincentians.
