MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (CNS) -- Pat Carter of St. Louis, a graphic designer and a spiritual director, said she came to Miami Beach to "recharge my batteries." By the time she left, she said, "I have a new challenge, a new perspective and have seen different realities. I hope for the future." The change she felt wasn't because she spent her time sunbathing or swimming at the beach. Carter she felt rejuvenated after attending the 15th annual conference of Spiritual Directors International April 14-18 in Miami Beach. The conference brought together more than 400 spiritual directors for a weekend of enrichment and support. About 85 percent of the participants were Catholic, but Buddhist, Jewish and Protestant spiritual directors also were present. They came from all over the United States, as well as other countries. The majority were women. Workshops focused on diversity in spiritual direction, especially among Hispanic and Jewish communities.
