Caritas, South Korea appeal for aid for North Korean train victims
Published: 2004-04-28
HONG KONG (CNS) -- Caritas Internationalis and the Seoul Archdiocese have appealed for aid to help victims of the April 22 train disaster in North Korea. Kathi Zellweger, director of international cooperation for Caritas Hong Kong, appealed for US$200,000 because emergency stocks of medicine and medical supplies were low, reported UCA News, an Asian church news agency based in Thailand. Zellweger said rehabilitation concerns for those injured also must be addressed. Caritas Hong Kong is the liaison agency for Caritas Internationalis' North Korea program. Zellweger told UCA News April 28 that Caritas Hong Kong sent about 600 pounds of medicine to Beijing April 26, and aid workers were scheduled to travel to Pyongyang, North Korea, the next day.
