Tennessee family offers love, needed medical care to new Haitian son

Published: 2004-04-27

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CNS) -- Living with the Scruggs family in the Nashville suburbs, 18-month-old Woovens is geographically and culturally a long way from the poverty of Haiti into which he was born. Now he has not only a loving family, but one that can ensure he receives the ongoing medical care he needs to thrive. He suffers from congenital hydrocephalus, a rare medical condition that causes increased fluid pressure in the brain and swelling of the child's head. As a result normal neurological development is hindered. Chuck and Sharon Scruggs are adopting Woovens because his biological parents in Haiti, Gena and Pierre Acao, have no access to the medical care their son needs. The Acaos decided to pursue an international adoption for the boy.
