WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Msgr. William Kerr, appointed April 22 as executive director of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, said the voice of the pope is "not heard as widely as it should be." He hopes to change that through exhibits and special programs at the center. The appointment of Msgr. Kerr, outgoing president of La Roche College in Pittsburgh, was announced at a press conference in Washington by Detroit Cardinal Adam J. Maida, president of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Foundation, which oversees the center's operation. The cardinal described Msgr. Kerr as "singularly qualified" for the position after his years of academic and administrative experience. Msgr. Kerr, a priest of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Fla., will take the post at the cultural center July 1. In June, he will complete two six-year terms as president of La Roche College. He chose not to seek another term.
