
Pope hosts lunch meeting with top USCCB officials

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The top officers of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops had a lunch meeting with Pope John Paul II April 22, the Vatican announced. The conference president and vice president, Bishops Wilton D. Gregory of Belleville, Ill., and William S. Skylstad of Spokane, Wash., as well as the conference general secretary, Msgr. William P. Fay, were at the Vatican in late April for meetings at Vatican congregations. Msgr. Fay said the luncheon with the pope included a mix of business and general conversation, although he declined to provide details.
