Bible offers solid, sure guideline of moral behavior, pope says

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The Bible offers a solid and sure guideline of moral behavior for all people, said Pope John Paul II. "Through the Bible, God speaks and reveals himself and indicates a solid foundation and sure orientation for human behavior," he said. This relationship between morality and the Bible "does not just concern believers, but in a certain sense every person of good will," the pope said in an April 20 address to members of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. The commission, part of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, holds its plenary assembly every year the week after the second Sunday of Easter. For the past three assembly meetings, the commission has concentrated on the theme of "The Bible and Morality."
