
Medical ethics expert named to head Loyola University in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (CNS) -- Jesuit Father Kevin Wildes, a medical ethics expert with a wide teaching and research background, has been named the 16th president of Loyola University in New Orleans. He will replace Jesuit Father William J. Byron, interim president since last October. His appointment, announced April 15, is to take effect Aug. 1, the start of the 2004-05 academic year. Father Wildes, 49, is currently at Georgetown University in Washington, where he is associate dean of Georgetown College. He also teaches in the university's philosophy department and its school of medicine, and is a senior research scholar at the university's Kennedy Institute of Ethics and Center for Clinical Bioethics.
