KATMANDU, Nepal (CNS) -- Christians managed to celebrate Easter in Nepal despite the country's political turmoil and the daily protests that surround them. While the religious observance of Easter is not officially recognized in Nepal, about 16,000 Christians who were carrying banners calling for peace staged a rally in central Katmandu April 11, reported UCA News, an Asian church news agency based in Thailand. The Christians celebrated Easter in their respective houses of worship, then walked from their churches to the city center. Among them were women and children who sang and handed out evangelical literature. One organizer, Isu Jung Karki, told UCA News the police allowed the rally. On April 8, the government banned all rallies and demonstrations in Katmandu, but that ban excluded rallies of a religious nature.
