LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- Sister Cecilia Louise Moore, a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet who was the first woman to be named chancellor of the Los Angeles Archdiocese, died April 5 at age 75 after a long battle with cancer. The funeral Mass for Sister Moore, a church administrator for four decades, will be held April 17 at the Carondelet Center in Brentwood, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be celebrated April 22 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles. Sister Moore, a native of Phoenix, joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1945. Of her appointment as chancellor Los Angeles Cardinal Roger M. Mahony said, "It was not necessary to even pause to seek a candidate; there was only one candidate, and it was Sister Cecilia Louise." The cardinal described Sister Moore as one of his "closest confidants and most effective leaders" and added that "she had a vast and deep wisdom that underpinned all of her recommendations and decisions."
