British archbishop sees merit in film that shows an abortion
Published: 2004-04-07
MANCHESTER, England (CNS) -- A British archbishop said plans to broadcast images of the abortion of a four-week fetus could provide a "powerful anti-abortion message." Archbishop Peter Smith of Cardiff, Wales, chairman of the Department of Christian Responsibility and Citizenship of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, said the program would highlight "the full horror of abortion." "If the tide of public opinion were to be turned by these disturbing images, it would be for the common good. What Channel 4 plans to show in this program is the killing of one unborn child. But, tragically, abortion has become one of the most common surgical procedures performed in Britain," he said in an April 5 statement. The five-minute program, "My Fetus," is scheduled to be broadcast April 20.
