Pittsburgh diocesan Catholic schools office receives $250,000 grant
Published: 2004-02-25
PITTSBURGH (CNS) -- The Pittsburgh Diocese's Department for Catholic Schools received a $250,000 grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation to develop a diocese-wide student performance assessment system. The grant will be used for a pilot project in five elementary schools to analyze current performance assessment systems and establish a model that could be used for all diocesan elementary schools. Pittsburgh's Catholic schools department will also use the funds to work with New American Schools, a nonprofit organization based in Alexandria, Va., which provides professional services to U.S. schools. The department also plans to develop an online database to show how to best store and retrieve data and to coordinate how schools and the diocese can share documents, conduct online forums and post a common calendar. There are nearly 100 elementary schools in the diocese.
