NEW YORK (CNS) -- Two dozen movies, television programs and books were chosen to receive Christopher Awards this year. Among the winners are the movies "Seabiscuit" and "Whale Rider," the TV series "Joan of Arcadia" and the best-selling book "Triangle: The Fire That Changed America." The 79 writers, illustrators, directors, producers and executive producers who created the winners were to be honored at a Feb. 26 dinner in New York. To be eligible for a Christopher Award, entries must exhibit exceptional artistic and technical proficiency, a significant degree of public visibility, and affirm the highest values of the human spirit. The Christophers, an organization founded in 1945 by Maryknoll Father James Keller, is rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition of service to God and humanity. The ancient Chinese proverb "It's better to light one candle than to curse the darkness" is the motto that guides its publishing, TV, radio and awards programs.
