MARYKNOLL, N.Y. (CNS) -- The YMCA in New York City's Chinatown district gave its Community Missionary Service Award to Maryknoll Father Raymond Nobiletti, pastor of Transfiguration Parish, which serves the Chinatown area. Father Nobiletti, one of five honorees, was a missionary in Hong Kong for 15 years, and has been at the Chinatown church for more than 12 years. "The importance of receiving the YMCA award is that it is for missionary service which can be done anywhere," Father Nobiletti said in a statement about the recent honor. "It has been the goal of the parish to go out to the people of Chinatown no matter what their race, creed or color and serve them." Transfiguration Parish serves immigrants as well as those who are in the country without documents. The parish's social services, educational institutions, service to the poor, and immigration and emergency services help immigrants get into the mainstream of the community.
