CINCINNATI (CNS) -- Sister Angela Ann Zukowski, a Mission Helper of the Sacred Heart who is an internationally known leader in communications, was honored with the Distinguished Communicator of the Year Award by the Salesian Guild at a Jan. 24 dinner in Cincinnati. Sister Zukowski, who directs the Institute for Pastoral Initiatives at the University of Dayton, has taught in that school's religious studies department for 25 years. She first ventured into multimedia education in 1976 when she established a rudimentary television studio in an abandoned one-room schoolhouse in rural Ohio and videotaped seven lessons on the sacraments for religious education classes. She served as a special consultant to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications during the writing of its 1992 document "Aetatis Novae," which called for the development of pastoral communications planning around the world. She was also a member of the council -- the first woman there to have voting privileges.
