DUBLIN, Ireland (CNS) -- The chapel at Blackrock College overflowed for the funeral of Holy Ghost Father Michael O'Carroll, an accomplished author and Mariologist who served at the school for more than 60 years. During the homily Jan. 15, Father Aidan Lehane recalled Father O'Carroll as "a romantic" and "an idealist," who was "at home in the world of ideas." Father O'Carroll died in Dublin Jan. 12 at age 92. For 64 years the priest nicknamed "The Doc" served at Dublin's Blackrock College, where he attended school as a youth. The priest, who taught religion, French, English and history, was popular among students. He wrote 24 books on a wide variety of topics, including five works of theology. Probably his best-known work is "Theotokos," which underlined his deep love for Mary.
