LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- Mount St. Mary's College in Los Angeles is offering new bachelor's degree programs in documentary film and social justice and in social work, beginning next fall. The bachelor of arts degree program in documentary film and social justice, co-sponsored by the college's sociology and art departments, "is designed to not only empower students to use their knowledge and skills to address significant social justice concerns, but to facilitate a deeper understanding and advocacy in the community at large," said Pam Haldeman, who chairs the sociology department. Students will take courses in documentary production, design, photography, the history of film and culture through film and take internships during their senior year. At the end of each semester, students will show their films in a community screening. The college also will offer a bachelor of science degree in social work to help meet the rising need for services to the aging baby boomer generation, families living in poverty and first-generation Americans.
