Speaker rebuts 'safe sex' argument in presentation to teenagers

Published: 2004-01-15

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (CNS) -- Dr. John Diggs recently took on a job that many parents don't want to do. He spoke to teenagers about sex. Diggs told Cathedral High School students in Springfield that listening to the popular culture's approval of premarital sex greatly increases their chances of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, known as STDs, and facing divorce after marriage. "This is a life-and-death question," he said. "Not just from the STDs, but it's life and death from the preservation of your family, the family that you don't even have yet." From a medical as well as a spiritual standpoint, Diggs spoke about abstinence, about reserving sex for marriage. Diggs is an internist who treats many patients suffering from sexually transmitted diseases.
