Diocesan audit reports follow tight structure
Published: 2004-01-08
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The bulk of the audit report on Catholic diocesan programs to prevent and respond to sexual abuse is devoted to individual summaries of each diocese's performance on the mandates of the bishops' 2002 "Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People." The report, released Jan. 6, summarizes the findings of teams of professional investigators from the Boston-based Gavin Group who visited 191 U.S. dioceses between June and November 2003. While the first 30 pages of the report offer a national overview, analysis and recommendations for all the bishops, the 388 pages that follow consist of tightly structured, information-packed summaries of the auditors' findings in each diocese. The entire report, indexed for immediate access to any diocese alphabetically or by state, is available on the Internet at www.usccb.org.
