
Steven Wright, finance director for JP II center, dies of leukemia

OLNEY, Md. (CNS) -- Father G. Michael Bugarin celebrated the funeral Mass and gave the homily Dec. 27 at St. Peter's Parish in Olney for Steven A. Wright, director of finance and administration at the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington. Wright, 45, died of acute lymphocytic leukemia Dec. 22. Prior to joining the staff of the cultural center shortly before its 2001 opening, Wright worked for 11 years as associate director and director of accounting at what is now called the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He earlier worked at Coopers & Lybrand as a staff accountant. Father Bugarin, executive director of the center, was joined in the final services for Wright by Bishop Robert N. Lynch of St. Petersburg, Fla., former general secretary of the bishops' conference.
