Published: 2003-12-29

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CNS) -- Patrick J. Waide Jr., a certified public accountant and longtime corporate businessman, has been elected chairman of the board of National Catholic Reporter Publishing Co., based in Kansas City. The 66-year-old resident of Greenwich, Conn., succeeds Baltimore businesswoman Joan F. Neal, who chaired the board for the past three years. Waide retired in 1998 after a career with Deloitte Haskins & Sells and its predecessor firms and as chief financial officer of the Bessemer Group. He also served as president and CEO of the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management in New York, now called the Leader to Leader Institute. "With Patrick Waide's expertise, National Catholic Reporter is well positioned to move into a dynamic, hopeful future," said publisher Thomas C. Fox in a statement. "I'm confident his leadership will enable us to serve even more effectively the needs of our readers on six continents and meet the challenges of publishing in the 21st century."
