BUFFALO, N.Y. (CNS) -- The college of consultors of the Buffalo Diocese has elected Msgr. Robert J. Cunningham, vicar general and chancellor of the diocese, as diocesan administrator. Msgr. Cunningham fills the vacancy created on Dec. 18 when Archbishop Henry J. Mansell was installed as archbishop of Hartford, Conn. He will serve until a new bishop of Buffalo is installed. Pope John Paul II is expected to name a successor to Archbishop Mansell sometime in 2004. "I am grateful for the confidence that the consultors have expressed in me and assure you of my willingness to assume these responsibilities," Msgr. Cunningham said in a statement. "My purpose is to see that the ordinary work of the Diocese of Buffalo continues."
