Polish National Catholic dialogue 'at a crossroads,' report says

Published: 2003-12-16

SCRANTON, Pa. (CNS) -- The Polish National Catholic-Roman Catholic dialogue is "at a crossroads," says a newly published report on the last 13 years of the dialogue. "There are still many difficult roads ahead," wrote the two bishops who edited the report. "We must now make the choice to continue to discuss these difficult matters in hopes of bringing understanding and agreement." They added that the effort to reach unity between their churches belongs not only to the bishops and theologians on the official dialogue. "For this work to bear fruit, it must be lived at the level of our parish communities," they said. The 123-page report, "Journeying Together in Christ: The Journey Continues," covers developments in the twice-yearly dialogue and in relations between the two churches from 1989 to 2002. Published by Our Sunday Visitor, it was edited by Prime Bishop Robert M. Nemkovich of the Polish National Catholic Church and retired Bishop James C. Timlin of Scranton, former Catholic co-chairman of the dialogue.
