Retired Cleveland Browns star finds comfort in faith
Published: 2003-12-16
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (CNS) -- To say that former Cleveland Browns linebacker Dick Ambrose didn't leave it all out on the field would actually be a compliment. Two decades after his last game, Ambrose can boast of plenty of post-football accomplishments. He's a successful employment and business litigation lawyer with a Cleveland law firm, a youth sports coach, teacher in the schools of his St. Bernadette Church in suburban Westlake, and play dad to three teenage girls. One constant has guided the onetime Browns defensive MVP through both phases of his life: his strong faith. "It was not easy to be open about (my faith) in the media or to the organization," Ambrose said. "It was not a popular position with respect to the media. They give very little publicity to it unless they could imply that it's not good for the team." He made the comments in an address to an audience of about 400 at the annual Catholic Men's Fellowship Conference of Northeast Ohio at Regina High School in South Euclid.
