Advent CD seeks to complement blizzard of Christmas carols

Published: 2003-12-11

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CNS) -- After "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," most people are stumped to name another Advent hymn. There's plenty of Christmas music, but those songs are reserved in the Catholic liturgy for the days following Dec. 24. Hoping to kindle interest in Advent music is a community of priests and brothers and their Advent CD. The Brotherhood of Hope -- whose members work in campus ministry at Florida State University, Boston University and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell -- has produced a CD titled "A Season of Hope -- Rediscovering Our Advent Heritage." The album features the voices of seven members of the Brotherhood, six of whom have been assigned to the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee over the past decade. A portion of the proceeds from the CD's sales will be channeled to a mission the Brotherhood supports in Tanzania. Distribution of the $16 CD is mainly through the Brotherhood's Web site, www.brotherhoodofhope.org, and selected Catholic bookstores. "A Season of Hope" also can be ordered through Heartbeat Records, which distributes the CD, by calling: (800) 433-3262.
