In Bayou Village, Catholic teens find lessons to learn, stuff to buy
Published: 2003-11-18
HOUSTON (CNS) -- For the young and hip, traversing through Bayou Village at the National Catholic Youth Conference in Houston seemed like a proverbial walk in the park. As the roar of Christian rock pulsated from a stage wedged between a besieged Starbucks Coffee vendor and an unusual bungee-bull ride, hordes of teens seemed completely in their element. For the not-as-young, and admittedly not-so-hip, the smorgasbord of displays in Houston's Reliant Arena at first seemed like an obstacle course of Catholic T-shirt vendors, service project booths and nacho stands. Yet by the end of an afternoon adventure in Bayou Village -- where participants glimpsed more than 100 exhibits and interactive venues geared toward Catholic teens -- the hall seemed an appropriate reflection of conference attendees' uncontainable zest for life and the Catholic faith.
