Partnership between U.S. and Ugandan Catholics essential, bishop says
Published: 2003-11-12
MINNETONKA, Minn. (CNS) -- Archbishop John Baptist Odama of the Gulu Archdiocese in northern Uganda has seen his share of tragedy during the 17-year guerrilla war in his country. But in the midst of a war that has killed thousands of innocent people and displaced nearly 1 million, he maintains his belief that God has the best solution. "He has his own timetable, but we keep trusting in him," said the archbishop, who also stressed the importance of developing partnerships among U.S. and Ugandan Catholic parishes in the midst of the turmoil. The partnership is not about money, but about encouragement and a "sharing of faith and ideas," he said during a visit to Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Minnetonka. The parish has a partner relationship with Sacred Heart Seminary in his archdiocese.
