WASHINGTON (CNS) -- A new appeal to Catholic young adults is aimed at interesting 18- to 35-year-olds in "the challenges and satisfactions of the stewardship way of life," explained Bishop Sylvester D. Ryan of Monterey, Calif., in introducing the document to U.S. bishops Nov. 10. The text, "Stewardship and Young Adults," asks young adults to change the world by using their gifts and skills to embrace the church's social teachings. A vote on whether to accept the document was scheduled for Nov. 12. It will be published in the form of a brochure, Bishop Ryan said in his remarks on the first day of the U.S. bishops' fall general meeting. "We believe that when young adults hear this message, it will touch them at the deepest levels," he said. The brochure will challenge people to be good stewards of their talents and gifts in all aspects of their lives. It specifies five areas on which to focus, including: respect for human life and dignity; protecting the natural environment; sharing time, talent and treasure with others; working as partners with God in the redemption of the world; and communicating their enthusiasm to others.
