Inquest into U.S. priest's death delayed by Kenyan corruption probe
Published: 2003-10-24
NAIROBI, Kenya (CNS) -- An inquest into the death of U.S. Mill Hill Father John Kaiser has been delayed after the judge handling the case was accused of corruption, according to a committee investigating the Kenyan judiciary. The inquest will resume Nov. 21, when a district court in Naivasha will issue new directives in the case. Justin Kaburu, a lower court judge from Naivasha who was handling the inquest into Father Kaiser's death, was one of 82 judges implicated in the corruption investigation. Kaburu was immediately suspended from serving in the lower court. In announcing the delay, the court did not say whether a new judge will take over the case or if the inquest will be restarted, reported the Nairobi-based Catholic Information Service for Africa.
