
Pope tells Palestinians, Israelis to 'build world of true peace'

JERUSALEM (CNS) -- In a message to the Israeli and Palestinian people, Pope John Paul II said he prayed that God would enable them "to build a world of true and lasting peace." The papal message was read by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, the Vatican's diplomatic representative to Israel and the Palestinian territories, during an Oct. 22 celebration at the Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem marking the pope's 25th anniversary.
