Italy's Cardinal Nicora one of country's top church-state experts
Published: 2003-10-21
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Cardinal Attilio Nicora, one of Italy's leading experts on church-state legal questions, has headed the Vatican's most important economic and investment agency since October 2002. As president of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See, he oversees management of the Vatican's financial holdings as well as personnel policies and decisions. Pope John Paul II inducted him and 29 others into the College of Cardinals Oct. 21. The cardinal, 66, said his appointment honored his entire staff, many of whom are lay people. "It's wonderful that the pope remembered us and is encouraging us," he said. Cardinal Nicora has a long history of service to the church, particularly in delicate affairs involving provisions of the church-state concordat in Italy.
