BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CNS) -- Bishop William E. Lori of Bridgeport has appointed Nancy Bundock Matthews of Fairfield as the new chancellor of the diocese, effective Oct. 14. Matthews, an attorney, succeeds Marylee A. MacDougall, who has decided to return to private life and focus on volunteer activities. Bishop Lori said Matthews, who has served as deputy treasurer of the state of Connecticut, "has a solid record of public service as an attorney and a government official." He praised her as "a woman of great faith and a special friend of our Catholic schools." He also praised MacDougall, who became the diocese's first lay chancellor in July 2002, "for her tireless efforts to promote issues and initiatives which have made a significant difference in the lives of the people of our diocese."
