Italian nuns help Kansas college students deepen their faith
Published: 2003-10-14
LAWRENCE, Kan. (CNS) -- They could be mistaken for the young college students they've come to serve. But the three Italian women now living at the archdiocese's Fiat House in Lawrence aren't foreign exchange students at the University of Kansas. Instead, they are members of the fastest growing community of women religious in Italy -- the Apostles of the Interior Life. The order was founded 13 years ago by a California woman and an Italian priest. Its primary mission is to draw young people closer to the church while helping them discover their life's calling. Sisters Tiziana Mazzei, Elena Morcelli and Michela Brugnuoli wasted no time in getting their mission under way. Since their arrival at the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center in mid-September, they have already signed up more than 70 students for one-on-one spiritual counseling. And on Sept. 28, they launched the Samuel Group, a one-year program designed by a cardinal in Milan, Italy, to help young adults discern their vocations.
