Chapel near Mother Teresa exhibit allows visitors time for prayer

Published: 2003-10-10

ROME (CNS) -- In a quiet space behind an exhibit on the life and message of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Missionaries of Charity have set up a chapel. After learning about Mother Teresa's love for the poor and for Jesus in the Eucharist, visitors to the exhibit in Rome are invited to pray with her before the Blessed Sacrament. A life-size statue of the nun, who was to be beatified Oct. 19 by Pope John Paul II, sits on a cushion on the floor in front of the altar and tabernacle. Members of the Missionaries of Charity, dressed in the same blue-trimmed white sari as the statue, will maintain a constant presence of prayer in the chapel throughout the exhibit's Oct. 11-26 run. Missionaries of Charity Sister Edward said, "After visitors learn about Mother, they can pray with her." Missionaries of Charity Father Brian Kolodiejchuk, postulator of Mother Teresa's sainthood cause, told reporters Oct. 10 the exhibit was designed solely to educate and to inspire.
