ST. LOUIS (CNS) -- The college of consultors in the Archdiocese of St. Louis has elected Auxiliary Bishop Joseph F. Naumann to serve as administrator of the archdiocese. In the role, Bishop Naumann will oversee the day-to-day operations of the archdiocese until the installation of a successor to Cardinal-designate Justin Rigali, now archbishop of Philadelphia. The college of consultors -- a 10-member board of advisers made up of priests of the Archdiocese of St. Louis -- is required under canon law to elect a diocesan administrator within eight days of the day of departure of the archbishop. Bishop Naumann, a 54-year-old native of St. Louis, has been a priest since 1975 and a bishop since 1997. He also has served since 1994 as vicar for finance and a vicar general of the archdiocese.
