Dad's Army patch gives inspiration to football-playing sons
Published: 2003-10-07
SOUTHGATE, Mich. (CNS) -- Although Karl Intemann is in Baghdad, Iraq, his sons Josh and Mike keep their father close to their hearts -- and on their sleeves -- to honor him and all others serving overseas. What began as an idea between a father and son grew into a team effort at St. Frances Cabrini elementary and high schools in the Detroit suburb of Allen Park, with all the football players and coaches wearing the Army uniform patch that Josh and Mike's father also wears. Intemann works for the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, known by the acronym CID, which investigates serious crimes committed by or against those in the Army. The patches made their debut at Cabrini's homecoming game Sept. 19. Cabrini beat Urban Lutheran 53-30. "Joshua misses his dad, so they came up with the idea to wear Karl's CID patch," said Joanne Intemann, who has been married to Karl for almost 22 years. He has been away since March, and is not expected to return until February.
