Published: 2003-10-07
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Pope John Paul II has named Auxiliary Bishop Leonard P. Blair of Detroit to be head of the Diocese of Toledo, Ohio. Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, papal nuncio to the United States, announced the appointment in Washington Oct. 7. In Toledo, Bishop Blair succeeds Bishop James R. Hoffman, who died in February. Auxiliary Bishop Robert W. Donnelly of Toledo had been serving as diocesan administrator since Bishop Hoffman's death. Bishop Blair will be installed as bishop of Toledo at 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral in Toledo. "I'm very happy and honored to be named the bishop of Toledo, and I look forward to making a new home among the people of northwest Ohio," he said in a statement. "At the same time, I'm filled with deep gratitude for all the church in Detroit has done for me from the time I was born."
