KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CNS) -- Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulcher from the central United States, gathered for their annual meeting Sept. 28, were warned against being elitist and were urged to use their influence for peace. "Don't let it go to your head that you now belong to a prestigious order with deep roots in its service to Christ and his church," said Bishop Raymond J. Boland of Kansas City-St. Joseph, in his homily at a Mass where 58 men and women were inducted into the ranks of the international ecclesiastical order dedicated to works of faith and charity. "Every call of Christ is a call to servanthood," he told the crowd of several hundred men and women. "You must use your wisdom and your expertise and your prayer and your charity to pave the way for the Spirit to inflame the minds and hearts of all within the ambit of your influence to do wonderful things for God." The Mass was the highlight of the annual meeting Sept. 26-28 of the Northern Lieutenancy of the United States of the group, formally known as the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. The lieutenancy covers Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, North and South Dakota, and Minnesota.
